Hello all Optima owners,
Sorry for interrupting this club as me myself is not an Optima owner. However I drove a sonata EF '02 which is very similar if not the same as Kia Optima. I've compare both car side by side and the different I found only:
1. Obviously front and back design
2. Optima got sunroof while sonata, at least here dont have
3. Optima got trunk release from inside the trunk itself while sonata don't
4. Slight different design at center console and steering.
5. Optima got bigger front disc brake than Sonata
Other than that Sonata 2.0 and Optima are the same, the engine, all auxiliaries, door, axle, mirror, window, seat etc and obviously spare part.
As such as I go through this forum I found especially in this maintenance thread, some of you pay almost double for the parts namely oil filters, air filter etc.
I'm not a hyundai or kia sparepart dealer. Don't get me wrong. But I would like to share with all of you where to get cheaper original part. I use this part and still service my sonata at authorised service center.
There is one shop at Taman Maju Jaya Cheras (same building with Keong Heng Auto) and one shop at Segambut which sale cheap parts. They import the parts themselves or from Kah Bintang PJ. The parts are relatively cheap even cheaper than Proton. Oil filter only RM10, air filter RM15. I've compile some list for my Sonata. Will attach later.
One more thing about engine oil quantity. The quantity in the manual said 4.3 L but practically only 4 L (one bottle) is needed each oil change. Why? it is impossible to drain all the oil in the engine unless you overhaul it. Some oil may trap in cavity in the engine like small passage etc. My experience was, if I empty the 4 liter bottle in the engine, the level will be slightly below max mark. That is adequate. And I use Castrol Magnatec 10w40 as recommended by Hyundai. It is cheaper but I service my car every 5k km.
I hope my information will help. Thank you.
