I have got my car for the first day and my engine died off during traffic jam for 3 times... but after that it was ok. Sent my car for 1k service and complaint.. told them about it in Puchong SC and they said the have fix that. Took the car out after the service on the 2nd day the engine died off again..... Fed up! Instead of going to KCS to reprogram the ECU, I have actually added some gasket near to the airflow intake pipe which links to the engine which was recommended by NSS, SJ to do that... as this will help the air intake better, doesnt necessary need to re-prgrm the ECU as that will disturb the original setting.... Well hope that helps. Guys, if u r staying in SJ go to NSS, USJ19 to do that... was told by the service center that many of the optima have done that and no complaints so far from their customers.

Any others that faced the problem of engine dying off?

i think better do reprograming, besides solving the engine die off problem, some say it slightly improves FC and engine's responsiveness. For me, i didn't notice any major change in FC so far (I went for reprogmamming 6 mths ago). based on my experience, the reprograming will benefit our ride and there is no side effect detected (touch wood).

iium06,
What type of reprogramming did u had? The one by authorised SC or the one by Automative Synergy where the cost is RM999. Can we actuall request SC to reprogram our ECU? Why do we need to do it?

Why do we need to do it? ires The ECU reprograming I mentioned is an official solution for the Optima's engine die off problem from Kia AND it is not the Automative Synergy (which I don think it is necessary). In fact, I believe the KVOptima's group complaint has expedited the said solution I believe. Of course, the key contributor is Bro. Edmund Sia. If u wish to, u can find more relevant threads / discussions in KVOptima. As I know, all Optima owners can have their ECU reprogrammed FOC at least in Selayang SC and KCS. I am not sure whether other SCs / authorized service dealers can do this or not as it needs a specific software.

Thanks iiumo6. saw about the ECU reprogramming discussion in KVOptima thread. Still blur-blur about it. Not sure whether necessary, but today really feel my car sluggish. Feels heavy and does not accelerate like usual. Maybe the car is sulking / merajuk. Idling also sometimes unstable for about 1 - 2 sec. But engine hasn't die off yet during driving, touch wood. So KIV reprogramming first lo.

NSS have added the additional gasket to the air flow system... so far engine is running fine.... no dying off... and fuel consumption so far I am fetching about 19cents... not too sure that have comprimised by the sluggish uphill to Genting.

Hi guys,
Yes, the KVOptima fellows has got about 20 car's ECU reprogramed. They even wrote to Tan Sri, Naza's big gun and c.c. half of all the KIA's Service Centre in Klang Valley. I was one of the fortunate one to have my "black beauty" reprogramed. KIA Selayang even drew-up a time-table for all of us to send our cars for reprogramming. Thanks to none other than Mr. Edmund Sia.
Anyone facing the same problem can contact Selayang SC. I think they will resolve the problem very soon. Not to worry..........

You guys worries me, though I hadn't encountered such problem. Anybody from JB or anybody knows which SC can fix the problem or rectify what needs to be rectified before it becomes a problem for my car?

Hi Jacky,
You can reach Selayang SC at 03-6136-7636. Speak to them about the problem, I am sure being the 2nd national car manufacturer, they'll be kind to assist. They will re-program the ECU. Apparently, the default settings are set for Korean climates and as such the air to fuel intake ratio has to re-adjusted to M'sian weather.............Regards.

Just to update, I just got back my car from NSS after sending in for ECU reprogramming this morning. They gave me a call last week saying the KIA ppl will dropby today. Quite a nice service from NSS Glenmarie.
Hope the car performance and stability improve with the new program.

Hi Jacky. Did they do the reprogramming for free or was it chargeble? Coz, I think all Optima's face the engine die off problem during idling, especially when stuck in a traffic jam.
Regards, Lingam
