I have just changed my timing belt at 68K at Naza Kia SC, Juru. After changing the timing belt, the car was so uncomfortable to drive as it vibrates while stop and also when moving and the car seem like under power too. I went back the next day and after checking, they found out that it was caused by the original alternator after changing the timing belt. The original alternator assembled in Kia factory is not suitable for 2.0L car but instead is for bigger capacity car and it will caused vibration only once you change the timing belt. They changed a new set of alternator FREE OF CHARGE for me. I appreciate the manager and the technicians there as they did it for me from morning until 9.30pm to make sure my car is in good order. I would like to advise the Optima owner should change the timing belt at Naza Kia SC as they can find out whether the proper alternator was installed based on the serial number.

goh17,
How much were you charged for changing the timing belts? They changed the alternator FOC despite the car is no longer under warranty? If so, that's good man.

ires,
The total charges is RM2,000.00 including major 60K service with Syntium 3000. There was a discount of 20% on timing belt part. The alternator was not charged because it is a replacement for the original which installed in Kia factory. Maybe it is more expensive but you may not get this replacement if you change you timing belt at Kia authorize SC.

Phew... RM2k, its scarry man. Now which bank I need to rob for the timing belt change? This "wrong" alternator thingy, shouldn't it affect all Optima or shouldn't naza recall the optimas for inspection of the alternators. Its daylight robbery & unfair la, if they will only replace the alternator (which should be considered as a manufacturer's fault) if we service at Naza SC only. I'm not too keen on their service. Experienced them once, and once is enough.

goh17,
if its not too much to ask, could you list the parts, service rendered and the relevant pricing of the parts and service during your 60,000 service.
Thanks.

The story not ended yet.
The next day after they changed the alternator, there was very noisy at the engine compartment while driving. I went there again about 3 days later, they found out it is due to the pressure pump hose leaking. I was charged RM502.70 for changing pressure hose. After changing the pressure hose, there still have some noisy sound while making a full turning. According to their technician, it is due to the power strg pump. I feel that I should make a stop here. I bring my car to a authorize Kia SC and after they changed the engine mounting and fan belt at the cost of RM410.00, everything is back to normal and the vibration is totally stop. According to the boss there, the vibration is due to the engine mounting and the sound is due to the fan felt was full with the oil due to the leaking oil earlier.

Goh, thanks for the list. The endless repairs is cold sweat to me, RM2,000 + RM502.70 + RM410 = RM2,912.70. I pray for you that nothing else is wrong with the car.
So there's 2 main belts to change i.e. the Belt Valve Timing & the Belt- Balance Timing. I checked with authorised SC and they said that it cost RM900+ to change timing belt, complete set, but not sure it includes the 2 belts + the other belts.
Based on Goh's list there are also Cylinder-Cam Position & Tensioner-Pulley. Are these parts or service. Really scarry lah. Any others who'd like to share their experience when changing timing belts.

RM325 for labour alone? This SC is really cut-throat!
I'll probably opt for timing belt change fr my regular mechanic. He just did for Sonata 2 weeks ago and total cost was RM700 only, inclusive of labour. I'll ask for breakdown of part numbers in my next visit.

Goh, how old ur car? i mean in term of years? I also have my engine mountings (all four) changed recently (during 55K KM, when my car was abt 2 years old) due to the noisy engine sound and vibration........ it seems our Optima's engine mountings are not long lasting as compared to other 2 litre cars......... .
